D Troop/F Troop Centaur Veterans Day Mini-Reunion: 9 - 12 Nov

A group of Centaurs from Troop D (Air), 3d Sqdn, 4th Cav and Troop F (Air), 4th Cav will be gathering for the 12th annual Veterans Day Reunion during the 9 – 12 November 2015 period.  We are inviting anyone who served as a Centaur or with the 3/4 Cav to join us at Fort Leavenworth to honor our lost friends and to renew old friendships at our mini-reunion.

The mini-reunion site will be the Holiday Inn Express, IHG Army Hotels – Fort Leavenworth, located at 214 Grant Ave, Bldg 695, Fort Leavenworth, KS.  The room rate will be $80.00 plus tax.  The room cost includes a buffet breakfast.  We have set aside a block of rooms for the nights of 9 – 11 November, so plan on arriving on Monday, 9 Nov and departing on Thursday, 12 Nov.  You can reserve a room by calling 913-684-4091.  Tell them it is for the Centaurs 3d Squadron, 4th Cavalry Group and you will get the special price.  The primary point of contact at the hotel is Rebecca Fisher, Operations Manager.

NOTE:  The Holiday Inn is on Ft Leavenworth, so you will need a photo driver’s license, vehicle registration, and proof of insurance in order to get a visitor pass.

Make your hotel reservations before 1 November.  If you are planning on attending, contact Dale Dow at the email address or phone number below so that he can make sure that we have the correct number of rooms available.  He needs your name, guest’s name, date of arrival and departure, troop assigned to, and dates with the troop so that a roster of attendees can be made up.

The schedule of activities is still being developed.  Right now, we are planning on spending one day visiting the Liberty Memorial and World War I Museum in Kansas City (the Museum has had some major rework since the 2006 3/4 Cav reunion), a side trip to the Arabic Steamboat Museum, and lunch at one of the better Kansas City bar-b-que establishments.  The second day will be spent visiting the Frontier Army Museum, the Buffalo Soldiers Memorial, the National Cemetery, and several other sites on Ft Leavenworth.  The schedule will be finalized when the Veterans Day activities at the Liberty Memorial and at Leavenworth are announced.

Contact Dale Dow, Centaur 35 in 1968, the host/coordinator/planner for this year, if you have any questions.  His email is daled@kansas.net and old fashioned land line phone is 785-776-1710.

Association Campaign & Unit Citation Streamer Project (Updated)

Streamer project update #2: We have received enough donations to obtain the Indian Wars & Philippine Insurrection streamers.  See images below.
Streamer project update #1: We have received enough donations to obtain the WWII streamers.  See images below.
In the  association newsletter we announced our streamer project for the Association's set of the squadron's colors. The 3/4 Cav Association started buying all of the squadron's authorized streamers. So far we have not had to use any association funds to purchase streamers. To help with the cost, we are seeking donations from our membership. Each streamer costs $37.95 unless it has a special date or lettering that must be added. We have received the first shipment of streamers using the $1,280 in donations we have received so far.  The squadron is authorized approximately 91 streamers.  We still have about 20 streamers to purchase. We order the streamers as we get the funds.  We need about $750 to complete the project. If you wish to donate, you may send a check to our treasurer, Bobby Bingham, at PO Box 23678, Lexington, Kentucky 40523-3678. You may also donate using PayPal through our website. Either way, please mark your donation: STREAMERS.

Many thanks to those who have already donated.
