D Troop 3/4 Cavalry Mini-Reunion 2013

Fellow Troopers,

The 10th Annual Veterans Day Mini-Reunion of the Centaurs from Troop D (Air), 3d Squadron, 4th Cavalry and Troop F (Air), 4th Cavalry will be held in Des Moines, Iowa, from Saturday, 9 November to Tuesday, 12 November 2013.  Although the mini-reunion is being hosted by the Centaurs, anyone who served with the 3d Squadron, 4th Cavalry in Vietnam or Iraq/Afghanistan is welcome to attend.  This year’s activity is being planned by Jerry Brownfield from Troop B in 68 – 69.

The Ramada Tropics Resort and Conference Center will be our gathering point for the weekend.  Jerry has made arrangements for a block of rooms at the special rate of $75.00 a night.  Contact the Ramada Tropics at 515-278-0271.  Use the code “D/F Trp Mini-Reunion” to reserve your room.  The current drop-dead day for making your reservation is 1 October, but Jerry is working on getting an extension to the cutoff day. The website for the Ramada Tropics is http://www.ramadatropicsresort.com.  The Ramada Tropics is located at 5000 Merle Hays Road, near Exit 131 of I80/I35 in Des Moines, IA.

In order to provide more time for renewing old friendships, making new friendships, and general socializing, Jerry has only planned three group activities.  Jerry will be providing a list of other things to see and do (shopping for the wives) in Des Moines in your reunion packet.
Sunday afternoon we will be taking a tour of the Iowa Historical Museum.  (http://www.iowahistory.org/museum/index.html)
Sunday evening we will be gathering in the hotel lobby for group photos and then heading to Smokey D’s Restaurant for dinner. (http://smokeydsbbq.com/)
Monday morning we will be observing Veterans Day by traveling to Camp Dodge to attend the Veterans Day service and concert conducted by the Iowa National Guard.  (Camp Dodge is the home for the Iowa National Guard.)  After the memorial service, we will be taking a tour of the Iowa National Guard’s Gold Star Museum at Camp Dodge.  (http://www.iowanationalguard.com/History/Museum/Pages/home.aspx)
